Vars, Southern French Alps, is located between Grenoble and Nice, 50km south of Briancon and Serre-Chevallier, 40km north of Barcelonnette.
In winter, Vars is linked with Risoul, a ski area of 180km of piste and 57 lifts (Forêt Blanche ski area) with fine tree level and high altitude skiing.
In summer, Vars is in between the Ubaye valley and the Parc Naturel Regional du Queyras. a great place to bicycle touring, mountain biking or hiking.

The village of Sainte-Marie and the other villages
Sainte Marie, 1650m, is an old village with direct access to the slopes either on the Peynier side (ski-lifts) or Peyrol side (high speed quad chairs). Right there are two ski shops, a news agent, a supermarket, the tourist office, post office, town hall and church. as welle as several hotels and restaurants. Saint Marcellin and Sainte Catherine are two other old village 1 km away from the slopes. Les Claux, 1850m, is the modern centre of the resort with a large number of shops, restaurants, a movie theater, medical centre and pharmacy, ski-school ... Sainte Marie and les Claux are 2km apart.

Chalet-hotel Alpage, Logis de France "3 fireplaces", 2 stars
The hotel is at the heart of the village of Sainte-Marie, 150m from the slopes and chair-lift. It is recomanded by several guide-books. It is quite comfortable and has a chalet-like athmosphere.
